  4. Add Content to your Battlecard - From the Collect Feed

  5. Add Content to your Battlecard - Using Automated Workflow

  8. Create a Task Workflow for Battlecard Managers

Create a Battlecard Template

When structuring your Battlecard template, consider which type will suit your sales team best. Here are a few options to consider -

  • One concise template for all competitors - This is a common strategy used when getting started

  • Custom template for each competitor - great for technical products or if you want to take your existing battlecards to the next level

  • Product or service based - helpful for sales teams that sell by vertical

  • Market based - helpful for sales teams that are geographically segmented

  • Persona based - this option considers the prospect's persona first when competitively differentiating

To start building your Battlecard, navigate to the Battlecard section within Kompyte and select Create a Battlecard. -

In the Battlecard template gallery, you'll see a variety of starter battlecards that can be customized or build your own battlecard from scratch.

When you select an option, choose whether you want to create -

1. Battlecard template for a group of competitors

2. A custom Battlecard for 1 competitor

In this example, we've used the Battlecard template and selected 1 competitor, SugarCRM. When the card is created, it will be private so that only admins can see the card until made public. In this curator mode, you can still manage the companies if you wish -

If you have existing user-generated intel in your repository it will populate the Battlecard automatically. In this SugarCRM example, we already had Kill Points, Weaknesses, and Strengths + Counters. We do not have any content in the Solution Comparison or the Case Studies sections.

Visible Sections

Only Benchmark: This option includes a summary page section only ideal for product or feature comparisons and visual charts across companies.

Benchmark + Companies: Includes the summary page along with an identical Battlecard template for each company included in the Battlecard.

Benchmark + Me + Companies: Includes a summary section, an identical Battlecard template for each company, and a custom template for your company.

Me + Companies: Includes a custom template for your company and an identical Battlecard template for each of the other companies.

Only Companies: Includes an identical Battlecard template for each of the companies in the Battlecard including your company (your company only has a custom layout if you select one of the + Me options).

Manage your Battlecard Elements

The different elements in your Battlecard are called traits. You can customize these by selecting Add Widget or Add Table -

Removing an Existing Trait:

Click in the top right-hand corner of a specific trait and click on the 3 dots. To remove a Trait, select the Remove trash can icon -

Adding a New Trait:

To add a new trait or table, select the Add Widget or Add Table links in the top right corner and choose where you want to place the new widget.

Once you select the placement of the new widget select from a variety of sources as described below.

In this example, we selected Curated Trait, searched for Pricing from the trait list, and clicked Save in the top corner. We have now added a pricing section to this Battlecard -

Changing an Existing Section:

To edit a trait, hover to the top right corner and click on the gear icon.

From here you can configure the title of the trait or click on the arrow to select a different trait modifying the information appearing on your Battlecard. Once you are done, click Save.

Organize and Resize your Traits:

To move or resize a Trait, click on the top right corner to drag, drop and resize

In the below example, we've resized and moved our Why We Win Trait.

Add Content to your Battlecard - While in Template Curator Mode

By default when entering a Battlecard you will be able to add content to the different traits by clicking on the pencil icon "Edit trait" -

Once you enter curator mode for a Trait, you can add or upload (Google/One Drive Integration) content, images, or links.

You can also format your text, including modifying the size, color, style, or structure once you select the text.

Add Content to your Battlecard | From the Collect Feed

To add content to your Battlecard directly from your Collect feed, select the PIN curator tool at the bottom left-hand corner of the insight.

In this example, we found an insightful Product Review that we want to add to SugarCRM's weaknesses -

Select Pin to trait, and search for the trait you want to add this insight to -

Once you select the Trait you will be brought to the Battlecard curator mode while in your Collect feed where you can edit the content of your trait, and save -

Now if we return to the Battlecard template, we see the Trait has been modified. If pinned intel has not been reviewed and incorporated into a trait a blue pin will display with the number of pinned insights ready for review. Only admins can see the blue pinned intel message.

Now when you select Edit trait value and enter curator mode, you will see the insight that has been pinned to this card. If you selected CHECK above the insight, the insight will be archived in the history of this Trait and the blue admin outline will disappear. Locate this insight again by selected PENDING PINNED INTEL > ALL PINNED INTEL -

Add Content to your Battlecard | Using Automated Workflows

Kompyte automation is a powerful tool that can save you hours of time in the insight evaluation stage.

Rather than depending on a person to review each new competitor insight, you can create an Automated Workflow to automatically PIN insights to Battlecard Traits. Here are some examples

  • Pin case studies and testimonies to a Notable Clients section

  • Pin product insights to a Product Comparison table

  • Pin positive reviews to a Strengths section

  • Pin negative reviews to a Weakness/Landmines section

Navigate to the Automation section within Kompyte, select an existing workflow or create a new one.

Once you outline the insight with a COLLECT BASED workflow, add a PIN TO TRAIT step in the workflow. In this example, we outline case studies and testimonials and pin these to the Notable Clients Trait across all competitor Battlecards. Activate your workflow and enroll insights retroactively if you wish to Kompyte to pin all the existing intel -

Now when you return your Battlecard, you'll see a blue thumbtack and a pinned insight message in blue on the actual trait signifying there are new insights that need to be reviewed -

Select Edit trait value to see all PENDING PINNED INTEL. The insights that have been identified and pinned automatically using automation will be visible here, saving you the time reviewing each insight within the Collect feed would have required -

As long as this workflow is activated, new insights will be automatically pinned so you do not need to search for case studies, weaknesses, etc.

Add Content to your Battlecard - From a Competitor Website

The Kompyte Insight Extension packs serious power. Once a user downloads the Kompyte internet extension they have different capabilities depending on their user rights. Here are a few -

  1. Access Competitor Battlecards and Dashboards on the fly

  2. Send Feedback and Field Intelligence to Battlecard admins

  3. Update Battlecard Traits (admins only)

Let's explore the 3rd capability and learn how to update Battlecard traits directly from a competitor's website.

Download the Kompyte internet extension and go to a webpage you would like to use to build your Battlecard content.

In this example, we're on the SugarCRM pricing page and open the Kompyte Extension. At the top of the extension, you can access the BATTLECARDS or SEND INSIGHT tab. To curate your Battlecard remain in the Send Insight tab. Here you have the option to -

  • Select a Competitor

  • Add Text

  • Take a Screenshot

  • Update Competitor Trait

Once you take a screenshot + add text, you'll have the option to save as NEW INSIGHT-

To update your Battlecard Trait, choose SELECT A TRAIT, search for the trait you'd like to update, and select -

In this example, we choose to add this content to PRICING OVERVIEW, the section we added to our Battlecard. Next, select UPDATE TRAIT-

Now you will be brought to a screen where you can see the Current Version and New Version. Review and select Overwrite & Save -

When you see the Insight saved screen - Voilร !

When you return to your Battlecard the content will now be visible -

If you find a valuable insight, but do not want to update your Battlecard trait at the moment, follow the same steps and select NEW INSIGHT. In this example, we found a valuable 3rd party SWOT analysis we'd like to save for later review -

This will create a new Team Insight in your Collet Feed. This insight will be automatically pinned to the selected trait and available for review in the Battlecard curator mode -

Adding an Automated Insight Stream to your Battlecard

With Kompyte automated research and AI curation, you can keep your sales team up to date with the latest news by adding a real-time news stream.

When in Battlefcard curator mode, select Edit Layout, and then select a PLUS icon where you'd like to add the feed -

You'll be brought a list of sources to choose from -

Select the Collect option, and enter the Collect feed Widget customization area -

Here you choose which saved filter, layout, and quantity of insight you'd like your sales team to see.

Saved Filters are customizable in the Collect section of Kompyte. Clients typically choose Highlighted insights, or Insights with a custom tag (i.e. Sales Insight) if they want to review each insight before the sales team.

Insight Count and Design Options affect how the insight appears and how many insights appear in the Battlecard -

In this example, we've chosen a Prioritized Insights saved filter (all highlighted insights), full-width images, and the latest 5 insights. We've also given this feed a custom title "Competitor News" visible by the sales team -

Now the Competitor News stream will be accessible on this Battlecard -

Here is the same Competitor News Stream with full width images -

Create a Task Workflow for Battlecard Managers

Battlecard managers can also create an easy-to-use task cadence to help them keep their Battlecards and sales team up to date with relevant, accurate, actionable intel.

When you create an automated PIN TO TRAIT step, you will be prompted in the final flow step to create a task (CREATE TASKS).

Activate and assign the task to your Battlecard Manager -

Once active, Tasks will be automatically created and added to the TASK MANAGEMENT section when a new insight is detected -

Now Battlecard Managers can review each task, enter Battlecard curator mode, and update Battlecard content when necessary. If the insight does not warrant an update to their Battlecard content, simply CHECK the insight, and finish the task -

This easy-to-use task cadence system empowers Battlecard managers as gatekeepers between new insights and sales intelligence.
